If your car battery has already served its purpose and now needs to be replaced, go ahead and do so. Buy a new battery and replace the old one. You surely would need a battery for you to go places with your car.

First off, you do buy the kind of battery that the auto maker who crafted and designed your vehicle recommends. It is easy to find the right battery for it is just like purchasing Volvo V40 car parts for your Volvo.

If you do not know what this kind of battery is, try to check your car owner's manual. Or if not, you can always run to auto experts like parts dealers and mechanics for additional information. Keep in mind, though, that for purposes of recycling, the old one must be exchanged with the new one you will buy. So if you would be doing the replacing yourself, you can just drop off the old one at a later time, after you have installed the new car battery.

Now it is time to open the hood and find where your battery is.

Once you have found the old battery, disconnect the cables from the terminals of the battery. Keep in mind that you should find the negative cables first before you proceed to disconnecting the positive cables. Negative cables are colored black while the red ones are the positive cables. And when you have successfully done so, remove the frame that holds the battery in place and take the battery out.

Before you put in the new car battery, make sure that the cable terminals are clean.

You can use a wire brush and some baking soda with water to clean them off if they are already dirty or are already corroded. Clean the battery terminal also. If they are already damaged and beyond using, now would be the right time to replace them.

When everything is already clean, you can now put the new battery in the frame. Then attach and connect the cables.

This time, attach the positive cables first, and then proceed to the negative cables. And when you have done so, you can now test your battery if it has been connected properly. If everything has been properly installed, your engine should start easily.

Protec International and their global division, Battery Doctors, have worked to institute over 400 battery reconditioning divisions worldwide to keep batteries out of our landfills, water systems, and other areas at risk for contamination. Although batteries are known for their toxic materials, Battery Doctors has developed a successful and environmentally safe method to recondition batteries for reuse.Batteries, especially large, commercial, lead-based batteries, allow lead, other toxic heavy metals, and acid to pollute the environment once they are discarded. These harmful materials are dangerous for people, animals, and the environment in general. Since most of the Battery Doctor business involves lead-based batteries, which are among the most hazardous, environmental concern is paramount.Everyone needs batteries?a plus for Battery Doctors owners. Since they are always needed, the business is practically unscathed by a slow economy.

This business pervades nearly every aspect of commerce, which provides for a huge market that includes everything from automobiles to farming, construction, medicine, boating and industry, just to mention a few. "The market for battery reconditioning is huge. Batteries are needed in nearly every business and industry, the demand is high. Businesses throw away batteries that can be reconditioned everyday. Battery waste is one of the most destructive hazards to our environment.

Battery Doctors has developed environmentally safe products to put into batteries making them functional again. The longer batteries last, fewer new batteries are manufactured and fewer end up in our landfills," says Marc S. Keith, Director of Product Development for Battery Doctors. If you would like to learn how you can contribute to saving the environment and gain profits by starting your own successful division of Battery Doctors, visit www.batterydoctors.com or call 1-800-357-4003 for free information and advice.Battery Doctors does not simply recharge or rebuild batteries. As a Battery Doctor you would not even have to take apart the battery for it to be reconditioned. Batteries run out of energy primarily because of sulphation buildup on the battery plates, but Battery Doctors has a way to rid the plates of this buildup.

A small amount of a chemical called ProBat?, only available through Battery Doctors, is poured into the batteries. ProBat is an environmentally safe, non-acidic, non-hazardous product. The battery is then charged, prepped, and ready to work again. Each battery that is saved is one less, lead-acid battery polluting our environment.Anyone can start their own environmentally-friendly business of reconditioning batteries. Since the chemicals used by Battery Doctors divisions are exclusive to Battery Doctors and are not sold in stores, there is almost no competition, and that is one of the reasons why the battery reconditioning business is so successful.

With hundreds of divisions worldwide, the system is proven and ideal for entrepreneurs or even those looking to make extra cash.Discarded batteries can be found or picked up from almost anywhere. Common places are auto dealers, repair facilities, junk yards, lube and oil stores, truck stops, industrial buildings, etc. Many people share the same concern for our environment and are happy to give their discarded batteries to a Battery Doctor. And with the Battery Doctors process, they can be reconditioned and resold for high profits. This allows active recycling of batteries that would otherwise be discarded and harm the environment by polluting soil, water, or even directly affecting humans or animals.About Battery DoctorsSince 1988 Battery Doctors and ProTec International have been developing environmentally safe products for commercial needs.

They now serve more than forty countries and can be found on every continent, licensing and marketing the high-demand business of battery reconditioning. ProTec International is a member of the World Trade Center and has been awarded many grants and honors from U.S. Governmental Agencies, and with each year their contribution to the environment grows through their Battery Doctors Divisions.<a href="http://www.xeal.com/" target="_blank" title="Xeal Inc.

Cell phones are available in a wide range of models and styles. Price ranges varying, making them affordable to practically everyone. Even the most basic models have certain unique features that depend on the manufacturer and make of the phone. More and more models have features such as Internet connection, digital camera, and wide display for viewing video. Cell phones are definitely an important accessory that makes life's fast, always on the go pace, easier to deal with.

Cell phones might be easy to use but might prove to be dangerous if not properly taken care of.

Batteries play a major role in operating a cell phone. All cell phones come equipped with a battery manufactured to suit that particular model or make. Although batteries manufactured by a particular company can fit into any model manufactured by the same company, interchanging is not a good idea, as it could dangerous if the fit is not perfect for that model.

A genuine cell phone battery can be recharged a number of times. If the phone is not used frequently, then the battery should last for three years or more. The life of a battery depends on the usage.

However, other conditions also matter when dealing with a battery.

With lithium ion and nickel cadmium batteries, it is a good idea to charge the battery when it is extremely low (almost dead). This increases the life of a battery, as well as ensures that the battery is "clean" before being recharged again.

Keeping the cell phone in places with extreme weather conditions might result in the circuit and the battery melting, freezing or leaking. Leaving the phone in the hot sun might result in the circuit fusing out or the battery melting inside the phone.

Using a genuine battery is always a good idea, because they are fitted with a detector to keep the level of charge correct.

Overcharging is a rare event as the phone has an alert that beeps when the phone is fully charged. Overcharging might result in overheating, resulting in leakage or overflow of charge.

Taking good care of a battery is essential to avoid problems. Cell phones are a must, so a bit of care will ensure that they are in good condition at all times..

Notebooks continue to represent a popular choice among
small to medium-sized enterprise road warriors. And while
maximum battery life is a principal feature, buyers must
weigh notebooks' power consumption advantages against
trade-offs in performance.

Indeed, despite growing demand for PDAs, handheld PCs,
and other mobile devices, users often prefer notebooks'
keyboards and screen sizes when crunching numbers,
checking email, or preparing PowerPoint presentations.
The challenge for OEMs has been to boost notebook
battery lives while packing the machines with increasingly
power-hungry CPUs and graphics processors.

The Trade-Off Factor

The ultimate goal? To offer the same capabilities that high-
powered, battleship desktops offer in a notebook form
factor that can run on battery power alone during an entire
workday or transcontinental plane ride.

Unfortunately, the
gap remains between ultra-high performance, power-
draining processing power, and long notebook battery
lives.

"It's a battle between end user wants for better battery life
and improvements in technology that sometimes require
more power," says Howard Locker, chief architect for
desktop and mobile development at IBM's personal-
computing division. "Battery life is also a trade-off between
weight and size. You can put a bigger battery in a laptop to
get more battery life, but it will weigh more." Notebook
battery life is largely taxed by the applications running at a
given time and the power of the CPUs, graphics
processors, and other components, which must be scaled
down to reduce power consumption. "For a longer battery
life, a trade-off in performance is thus necessary.

It might
take a little longer to do things, but if something takes four
seconds instead of two seconds but your battery lasts
another 45 minutes, then that is a good trade-off," Locker
says. "[Designing] intelligent power management by
detuning functions and performances that are not needed
is critical."

Battery-Life Kings

So which notebooks on the market offer the longest battery
lives? The answer varies according to many performance
variables and form-factor preferences, but Tablet PCs
from Electrovaya (www.electrovaya.com; 905/855-4610)
and notebooks from IBM (www.ibm.com; 888/839-9289)
stand out, says Rob Enderle, an analyst with the Enderle
Group.

"In Tablets the Electrovaya Scribbler is the clear winner
with nine hours of battery life, but of course you would kind
of expect this given Electrovaya is known for its work in
batteries, not computers," Enderle says. "The IBM T Series,
with its large battery, used to be the segment leader with
around six hours of battery life."

So what are Electrovaya's and IBM's secret sauces? "The
Electrovaya uses a special high-capacity battery, and IBM's
product has a combination of a large battery and a system
tuned for battery life as opposed to performance," Enderle
says. "The Electrovaya also has a special high-capacity
battery that is unique??or at least for now."

So what are the trade-offs involved? "Both products are
slow to use, particularly if you run a suite of virus,
antispam, and anti-spyware offerings," Enderle says.

"However, once the applications are up and running, the
performance hit doesn't seem as bad, and many users can
get used to it."

Several components are responsible for the performance
hit vs. long battery life in the IBM T Series and Electrovaya
offerings. "What is causing the performance hit is slower
moving drives, which may at times actually spin nearly all
the way down between reads, processors working at a
fraction of their potential on battery life, dimmer screens,
and lower power fans," Enderle says.

Electrovaya largely attributes the Scribbler's long battery
life to its patented LiIon, 75 watt-hour battery. The SC2100
also features a 1.3GHz Intel Centrino processor, a 12.1-
inch display, 802.11g wireless capabilities, and an 80GB
hard drive and weighs in at 3.5 pounds.

IBM's ThinkPad T43, introduced last month and available
in April, weighs 4.5 pounds and is also equipped with an
Intel Centrino processor that supports up to 2GB of DDR2
system memory. According to IBM, the new T43 can offer
up to eight hours of battery life while running office
applications, including Internet connectivity with an 802.11
connection.

Battle Of The Form Factors

HP (www.hp.com; 800/752-0900) this month attempted to
shake up the battery life sector with the launch of the HP
Compaq 6220/6230 notebook series that the company
says can offer more than nine hours of battery life when a
travel battery, which is sold separately, is added. The
notebook's form factor enables the travel battery to be
attached directly to the notebook so that it is
simultaneously operable with the integrated battery. The
notebook series, which offers Centrino CPU clock speeds
up to 2.13GHz and a memory capacity of up to 2.048GHz,
weighs in at 5.99 pounds when the travel battery is
attached.

In addition to the Intel Centrino processor that offers
SpeedStep power-saving controls and Intel's Display
Power Saving technology for the screen??which
represents the most significant power-draining
component??HP also says its patented NIC technology
helps to lower power consumption on a BIOS system level.

Nine hours is also a realistic benchmark for the HP
Compaq 6220/6230 notebook series when running typical
applications, such as accessing the Web and checking
email with the Centrino chipset's 802.11 capabilities, using
a word processor or other applications, the company says.
"Nine hours is a realistic test of what you would experience
while sitting in a conference room in a, God forbid, nine-
hour meeting," says Herman de Hoop, a worldwide
technical marketing manager for HP.

ASUS (www.asus.com; 888/678-3688) also represents an
OEM with a consistent notebook offering that at least keeps
the vendor in the battery longevity notebook race. The
company also relies on Intel's Centrino to regulate its latest
M3Np notebook's power-saving features at clock speeds of
1.30GHz to 1.70GHz.

With ASUS' Power4 Gear power-
consumption technology, the company maintains the
M3Np can operate more than five hours. The M3Np
weighs about 5 pounds.

A 10-Hour-Plus Battery Life?

So what is in store for next-generation long-battery life
notebooks? OEMs will likely continue to rely on power-
saving capabilities of CPUs, as well as BIOS and other
system tweaks to reduce notebook power consumption in
future models, but no breakthroughs in battery
technologies are in store for the near term. It will likely be
several years before battery lives extend beyond 10 hours,
which will probably involve replacing power-hungry LCDs
with new display types, Locker says.

"I don't see battery life [extending to] up and beyond 10
hours [in the near future].

Inventing a new technology to
replace the panels with OLEDs, for example, would do it,
but that is four to five years out," Locker says. "However,
[OLEDs] will also probably represent the next breakthrough
on a system level

October 1, 2004 - A group of Battery Doctors volunteered to trek to Malaysia on their days off from work to recondition batteries for people in the remote villages of Borneo. The United Kingdom division of Battery Doctors, a California-based company, made it possible for these small villages to communicate with each other and to have power for more than only a few hours per night.Hywel Philippart, one of the UK team members, described the conditions in the villages prior to their arrival: "Until now, the way to get a message to the people in the longhouse was to call someone in the town of Medamit and ask them to put the word about that if anyone is going up the river past the longhouse, could they please pass on this message." Now these small villages can directly communicate with the use of their newly reconditioned batteries.Lead acid batteries are used in virtually any industry from automobiles to farming, trucking, boating, construction, in forklifts, golf carts, fleet vehicles, hospitals, telecommunications, and the list goes on. The Battery Doctors distributors throughout the world use an environmentally-friendly method of reconditioning?not just recharging? lead acid batteries that would have otherwise been discarded. The difference between reconditioning batteries and the traditional method of rebuilding batteries is the unique Battery Doctors process. The batteries are not taken apart.

Instead, a small amount of a chemical exclusive to Battery Doctors called ProBat? is poured into the battery. ProBat dissolves the lead sulfate crystals that cause 80% of all lead acid batteries to fail. The battery is then charged, prepped, and ready to work, often doubling the life of the battery.Anyone can start their own environmentally-friendly business of reconditioning batteries. The chemicals used by Battery Doctors are only available through Battery Doctors distributors and are not sold in stores. This provides for almost no competition, and that is one of the reasons why their battery reconditioning business is so successful. To learn more about the promising industry of battery reconditioning and the great potential of starting your own Battery Doctors business, visit www.batterydoctors.com or call 1-800-357-4003 for free information.

In addition to setting up a communication system, the UK team used reconditioned car batteries to supply the villages with power. Before the team's visit, the people only had four hours of power each evening; anything left unfinished would have to wait until the next night. After the team reconditioned the batteries, the people had enough power to last them throughout the day. If these batteries had not been reconditioned, they would have mostly likely been discarded into the Malaysian rivers or jungles. The people are now able to use safe, reconditioned batteries with little expense.Marc S.

Keith, Director of Product Development for Battery Doctors, says, "We are revolutionizing the battery industry.

Cell phones have become a part of every day living. To some individuals, they serve as an important business tool allowing business conversations while on the run or on vacation. Along with the comfortable size, shape and user-friendly operations of cell phones, you can also add accessories like digital cameras, mp3 players, and a connecting wire for Internet browsing. Some are also hand held Palm organizers in addition to a cell phone. All the accessories required for such phones are provided either at the dealers or direct manufacturer outlets as part of the purchasing package.

With all these wonderful advantages and state of the art features, a cell phone still needs a battery to communicate .

With a dead battery, you might as well have a toy phone rather than a useful instrument.

Most cell phones are equipped with a lithium ion battery. They are specifically designed for a specific type of cell phone that can be found at any major cell phone company. Lithium ion cell phone batteries are rechargeable and can be recharged in any power outlet using a power cord. The battery need not be removed from the cell phone unless it needs to be replaced.

Companies like Nokia, Samsung, Panasonic, Motorola and many other provide a charger as part of the cell phone package. All outlets that sell mobile phones also be provide chargers that are manufactured by the same manufacturer. This ensures that the charger is highly compatible with the battery and will not affect the battery adversely.

It is very important not to use the same charger for different models. Although various models work on the same charger, it is imperative to consider the make before using the same on a different company manufactured phone. Also, it is important not to overcharge the battery as this might lead to lessening the battery's life..

Jamestown, RI (ContentDesk via ContentDesk Direct) November 1, 2005 -- Argus Analyzers www.argusanalyzers.com announced today the launch of its AA series, a line of hand-held battery analyzers that delivers the most useful, comprehensive and affordable battery performance information now available to the automotive service and industrial battery service markets. The AA series includes four models starting at $99 which are now available and shipping in the US, Europe and Asia. According to AAA, battery problems represent the single largest cause of vehicle downtime. With over 230 million private and commercial vehicles on the road in the US alone, the need for fast, accurate and economical battery diagnostics is essential in order to anticipate and avoid battery problems. In the past, auto technicians have relied on dated technologies, including volt meters and toaster-style load testers, which cant perform predictive diagnostics and pose certain safety problems. The electronic testers available until now offer limited technology which has not progressed for over ten years, making the analysis process cumbersome, time-consuming and expensive.Argus Analyzers solutionthe AA series--is a preventative measure.

By making comprehensive battery health information quickly and easily accessible as well as cost effective, auto technicians can now anticipate battery failure - helping valued customers avoid unnecessary auto problems due to dead batteries. With the AA500, its now fast and convenient to proactively test the battery of every vehicle that comes into my shop, something Ive never been able to do, commented Bryan Bryer, owner of Central Garage. In less than 15 seconds, I have enough information to tell my customer its time to replace the cars battery rather than wait for the battery to fail leaving my customer stranded then forced to find a jumpstart or tow. Argus has come up with a battery testing tool that is affordable enough for me to put in every bay at my garage. Argus Analyzers hand-held line employs two patented new test technologies, Crank-CheckTM and High Frequency Impedance, which overcome the critical shortcomings of conventional battery analysis technology." Crank-Check analyzes the batterys performance during an actual starting sequence, providingreal-time information about the starting capacity of the battery relative to the actual load." High Frequency Impedance (HFI) technology measures the internal resistance of the battery. It is similar to existing conductance test approaches, with a few important exceptions: the test can be performed while a battery is in use, eliminating the need to effectively take the battery offline to test. The Argus HFI test is faster, and not confused by interference from vehicle or charger systems.

Additionally HFI is highly accurate over a large range of battery sizes from 30 CCA to over 2000 CCA."Argus' Crank-Check technology provides the most accurate assessment of a battery's cranking health, Bryer continues. There is just no other product out there that gets me this critical battery performance data. The HFI approach to determining battery capacity is the fastest and most accurate available. The technology is so robust we can test battery capacity without worrying about interference from either the vehicle or charger systems. This saves us time, money and eliminates annoying and costly misdiagnoses.

The Argus battery testers provide the information our technicians need to truly understand how a battery is performing so they can make informed and proactive recommendations to their customers. This is a huge improvement over the limited pass/fail results offered by technology in the past."Argus Analyzers hand-held line features four models including the AA 200, 300, 400, and 500--starting at $99--for applications ranging from cars, trucks, and boats, to industrial equipment, telecom equipment and electric vehicles.About Argus AnalyzersBased in Jamestown, Rhode Island, Argus Analyzers www.argusanalyzers.com is composed of an innovative team of scientists, engineers, and manufacturing and marketing professionals with extensive experience in battery and power technology.

Did you ever go to jumpstart your car, and notice that you can barely see your battery underneath all the gunk? This 'gunk' is actually battery corrosion, which is formed by acid condensation. Since this is formed by acid, a basic chemical solution will do the cleaning trick. Battery acid is actually very easy to clean away with a common household item- baking soda! But still, precautions must be followed. This article will inform you step by step how to clean the battery while keeping safe.

First, you will need to gather supplies for this project. Most of these items you may already have in your home.
Safety glasses or goggles
Box of baking soda
Adjustable pliers with insulated handles
Screwdrivers with insulated handles
A small, stiff-bristled brush (an old toothbrush will work just fine!)
Assorted small open-end and box wrenches
Small metal or plastic scraper
Special battery tools, including a cable puller and cable terminal cleaning brushes
A turkey baster or small funnel
All-purpose household cleaner in a spray bottle
Sponges or clean cloths
A source of ample clean water such as a garden hose or a large bucket and sponge
Rubber gloves for protecting your hands

There are a few safety tips to keep in mind when getting ready to clean the battery.

First of all, you safety glasses and gloves must be worn to protect your eyes and skin from sulfuric acid that can linger in the corrosion deposits. Also, this material can eat away at your car's paint, so keep it away from that as well.

Because the amount of dirt and corrosion on batteries may differ from one another, battery cleaning will vary, so some of the steps below may or may not need to be performed. Sometimes, to thoroughly remove severe corrosion and dirt, you may even need to remove the battery from the vehicle.

First, scrape off any white or greenish corrosion deposits with the stiff-bristled brush or small metal or plastic scraper.

Next, use the solution of baking soda mixed with water, approximately one heaping tablespoon to each pint of water. Carefully apply it to the outside of the battery and its cable connections with the turkey baster or small funnel. Then, you can use your brush to work the baking soda solution into the heavily corroded areas. If you find that the cable clamps or terminals are badly corroded at the battery, you can disconnect them for easier cleaning. For this, you may need to use pliers, assorted wrenches and a small battery cable puller to disconnect them.

You should disconnect the negative first, followed by the positive.

Then, use your battery cable scrapers or brush to remove the corrosion from the terminals, battery posts and hold down clamps and brackets. Flush these parts with your baking soda solution to rid them of any trace of corrosion. After this, wash the outside of the battery, the cable ends and the hold down parts with a liquid cleaner in a spray bottle. After that, use a sponge or rag to get off any remaining dirt or grease. After everything is clean, dry off the battery and all its parts with a dry rag or cloth.

The final step is just reinstalling any part that was removed and tightening everything so it is secure.

Reconnect the battery, positive cable first. You're done! You're battery is now safe and clean..
